Minnesota Sings Tops $100,000 Mark- September 13, 2024 Organizers of the state’s top amateur vocal competition announced today that they have exceeded the $100,000 mark in cash prizes awarded during their ten year history. The annual competition of Minnesota singers will take place this October at the Gnarly Bard Theater in St. Cloud. The 2024 event will showcase the top 27 singers through the past decade with this year’s top award set at $10,000. Lead volunteer Chuck Spavin revealed “ This news is an amazing milestone and we can’t be prouder to have featured the voices of more than 550 vocalists who sang for their Minnesota Cities.” Over the past decade, Minnesota Sings has offered cities the opportunity to hold local Sings competition during local festivals or other events to choose which singers would advance to the State Finals. Beside the nearly $90,000 awarded so far in cash prizes to the singers, another $18,500 has been provided to the winner’s favorite hometown charities as well as those hosting the city competition. The event is also known for it’s support of the audiences, giving away more than $15,000 worth of door prizes over the years. Spavin notes, “ We have so many local people to thank as well as major sponsors from professional music equipment and Twin Cities area recording studios. The event’s Platinum Sponsor has been a supporter from the very beginning- St. Paul’s RBC Wealth Management providing generous financial support to continue the event.” He concludes “ The local competition qualifying format will return in 2025, however “ we are always looking for new ways to bring these singers to our stage and we will do whatever we can to continue making that possible.” More information on this year’s event can be found at www.minnesotasings.com
Before we decided to do 10 Years In The Making, the city of Becker had expressed interest in joining the Minnesota Sings Network. I explained to them that it would be great to have them aboard--but their winners would not receive anything like they would during a normal Minnesota Sings year. But we did decide the winners would get to attend at no charge the BIG event happening on Saturday October 12th in St. Cloud. They will not be performing--but will have great seats compliments of Minnesota Sings. For 2025 we look forward to having them send there winners on to the regular Minnesota Sings competition where they will have a chance to win some big cash and some great music gear. We have included their flyer. (Click on to enlarge) Please support the first annual Becker Sings!
