Minnesota Sings requires that all judges reside OUTSIDE of Minnesota. Our judges are carefully selected to assure the most equitable judging team possible. Information on this year's judges will be announced soon.
2017 Minnesota Sings Judges
Jen is an international talent from River Falls, WI. Most recently, Jen performed on Broadway as Tanya in "Mamma Mia." She has toured internationally with "Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story", and regionally at the Guthrie, the Ordway, the History Theatre, among others and played Violet Newstead in the Minnetonka production of the musical "9-5".
Jen also played Snow White in the musical "Disenchanted" at the Ritz Theatre in Minnepolis and has reprised her role as Laverne Andrews in the History Theatre's production of "Christmas of Swing" last winter. City Pages says, "Burleigh-Bentz is acknowledged as one of the best leading ladies the Twin Cities musical theatre scene has to offer."
Jen has been blessed to have shared the stage with such greats as: Liza Minelli, Ben Vereen, Harry Connick, Jr., Carolee Carmello, Beth Level, and Brian D'Arcy James to name a few. Jen co-owns Brickhouse Music in River Falls with her rock star husband, Tommy Bentz. Brickhouse is celebrating 25 years of business!
Baritone Gary Moss enjoys a varied repertoire that includes Opera, Oratorio, Operetta and Musical Theater. Gary was a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2003. He has sung roles with opera companies around the country such as Michigan Opera Theater, Toledo Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Washington East Opera, The Ohio Light Opera and Skylight Opera Theater.
Dr. Moss holds an undergraduate degree in vocal performance from the University of Utah, and both a master's degree and a doctorate in vocal performance from the University of Michigan, where he studied with Lorna Haywood and Martin Katz.
Recent engagements include the roles Wilfred Shadbolt in Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Yeomen of the Guard, Schaunard in "Puccini's La Boheme", Danilo Danilowich in Lehar's "The Merry Widow", Billy Bigelow in "Carousel", Pirate King in Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance", and Fresco in Herbert's "The Fortune Teller".
In March of 2008, Gary joined the roster of Wade Artist Management. In addition, he currently serves on the Voice Faculty at Luther College and the Musical Theater Faculty at Viterbo University.
Dan Fee taught music in Wisconsin for 34 years; the last 26 as an elementary music specialist in his hometown of Fond du Lac. He has presented sessions at the Wisconsin, Michigan, Alaska, Illinois, Minnesota, Wyoming, Kentucky and Iowa State Music Conferences. He has also presented sessions for summer workshops in Las Vegas, Nashville and Branson, MO.
His book "Listening Fun!" features rhythmically expressive movement routines to classical music using scarves and tennis balls. His second book, "MORE Listening Fun" uses paper plates and parachutes in a similar fashion.
Mr. Fee has taught Elementary Music Methods for Classroom Teachers at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh, Lakeland College, Marian University, and at Silver Lake College since 2001. He also taught music theory and applied voice as an adjunct instructor at Marian University and Lakeland College and maintains a private voice studio in his home.
Dan annually adjudicates solo and ensemble music festivals. He also sings with the South Shore Chorale, plays trumpet, and is a vocal soloist with the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band.
Dan has directed handbell and vocal choirs at various churches in Fond du Lac, WI.
